HP should have method the create Recovery Media to DVDs or maybe Flash Drive that can be used to restore it to 'Out Of Box'...
You could also use something like Macrium Reflect free version, or Acronis True Image to make an image of your current setup to a USB Drive... I would be curious to know if the USB would work with a Linux based program on a bootable CD or Flash Drive...
If it works, the problem is with your drivers in Windows for some reason...
If it doesn't work it answers the question as to whether it is the hardware or not...
I would suggest buying a Retail version of Acronis.. It comes on a bootable CD...

I'm pretty sure that the Macrium needs to be installed to create the Media...
A quick way to check the USB if you have USB drive would be to download Partition Wizard 9... It's free amd the ISO will burn to a bootable CD...
