I was using a Microsoft Xbox 360 controller for some of the games that are recommended to play with a controller on my PC. Recently, my 360 controller cable became frayed to the point where I couldn't use it anymore. I noticed that Amazon sold their version of a wired Xbox One controller for $25 (cheapest option).

I bought it because I mainly use the control for couch gaming on the Steam Link, but I noticed that no drivers are supported in Windows when I want to use it on my computer.

Has anyone who has purchased this product had success with the controller on Windows? (I use Windows 8.1 Pro)

Edit: Thank you to /u/dandu3 for helping me out! Here is how to fix the issue:

1. Connect controller to PC

2. Download drivers here: http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/driver/drvs/2014/06/20656929_ce9bb23845f18c7ed66d07d417969c567a61d223.cab

3. Go to downloads and COPY all of the files inside of the cabinet file

4. Make folder inside of your HDD/SSD (whichever one you have your OS on) and name it something like 'XB1_Driver'

5. Paste all four files into the folder you just made

6. Go to Search and type in 'Device Manager', open it

7. Look in 'Other Devices', the controller should be located there

8. Right click the controller and open its 'Properties'

9. Go to the 'Driver' tab

10. Select 'Update Driver'

11. Select 'Browse my computer for driver software'

12. Select 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers from my computer'

13. Select 'Have Disk'

14. Select 'Browse' and go to the folder you created earlier

15. Select the 'xb1usb' file and OPEN it

16. Then click 'OK'
